Long ago, a merchant named Ali wished to travel and see the world. Before he left, he gave a jar containing 1000 gold coins to his friend, Musa, to keep safely in a warehouse. His friend did not know about the gold coins as Ali had covered them with olives and sealed the jar.

One day, Musa's wife wanted to eat some olives with the meat she had prepared for dinner. Musa remembered Ali's jar of olives and opened it although his wife told him not to. The olives had become rotten. As Musa was throwing them away, a few gold coins rolled out of the jar. He was surprised and excited, and decided to keep the gold coins for himself. However, he did not tell his wife about it.

After six years, Ali returned home only to find the jar filled with olives but no gold coins. Musa denied taking the gold coins so Ali brought him before the judge. Unfortunately, the judge believed Musa who was dressed in fine clothes instead of Ali, who was dressed like a poor man. How could he possibly own 1000 gold coins?

Ali then decided to present his case before the Caliph, a kind and just ruler who cared for his people. The Caliph would often disguise himself so he could walk the streets at night to see how his people lived. That night, he saw a group of boys in the marketplace, acting out Ali's case. The Caliph was very impressed with Jamil, one of the boys who acted as the judge. He invited Jamil to act as the judge in the great hall the next day.

At first, Jamil was shy and afraid but the Caliph encouraged him. Jamil proved tht Musa had actually stolen the gold coins. The thief was the only one who could have replaced the rotten olives with fresh ones.

Musa had to confess his dishonest act. He returned the gold coins and was sent to jail. The Caliph removed the judge from the court and rewarded Jamil with 100 pieces of gold. The happiest of all was Ali.
